Angela Graham is the owner and founder of Graham Gallery. She is a Hastings native. Angela established her business in November of 1996. After Graduating from Hastings College in 1993 and moving around a bit, she decided to call Hastings her home.
"My initial goal was to give the artist of the community a space in which to exhibit their art work."
From the beginning the Hastings Community has been an essential part of the success of the gallery . HEDC, Central Community College Foundation and Hastings State Bank teamed up to help the foundation of the starting business.
The first location for Graham Gallery was a historic downtown location known as the Clark Buchannan building at 800 West 2nd Street. The goal for this location was to establish an art gallery, exhibiting local artist work and to offer the services of a custom frame shop. Artist and customers were responsive to this opportunity of local artist exhibitions and the 1000 sq ft space was begining to inhibit the viewing of the work.
In 2002, with the help of the Community Redevelopment Authority, Graham Gallery was able to expand and moved to its current location at 617 West 2nd Street. The 1883 building was well maintained over the years. Today Graham Gallery, with its brick walls and original wood floors , provides its artists with a beautiful space to show a variety of mediums.
A traditional gallery greets the customer as they walk in the front door. This exhibit changes every month and is reserved for individuals or groups of artists, traveling exibitions, and competiton shows. As you move through the gallery you have a chance to experience the artists of Graham Gallery in the retail gallery. Here we showcase our local artist on a regular basis to give the customer a more consistant variety and diversity. Custom Framing is a service that we provide. Providing the service of Custom framing give us the expertise to provide high quality presentation for the art that is sold in the gallery and the art that is brought in by customers to be preserved and presented looking its best for the future. The gallery is a great back drop for the frameshop and gives us a chance to exhibit some of our framing techniques. Finally, as an opportunity to inspire and encourage, Graham Gallery offers Art Workwhops. These workshops cover 2-D and 3-D classes including Bronze schulpture, Oil painting, Pastel, Photography, Landscape design and many more. If there is something you are interested in learning please contact us and we will look into providing a workshop or making a contact with a local artist who can help.
With the growth of the gallery has come a growth of the vision. "My initial goal was to give the artist of the community a space in which to exhibit their art work." What this gallery has become is not just a place for the artist but a place for the community to appreciate art and be inspired by local artists. The support of this community is the reason for this gallery's success. Thank you very much for that support.
